An antibiotic is a substance or compound that kills bacteria or inhibits their growth. Antibiotics have no effect on viruses and should never be prescribed to treats colds or flu. Before taking any antibiotic, it is important to talk with your doctor or pharmacist to ensure a complete understanding of often and how long to take the antibiotic, as well as such issues as whether to take it with or without food, in the morning or at bedtime, etc. Your doctor should know about any other medicines you are taking, whether prescribed or over-the-counter. It is important to take the complete course of an antibiotic, even though you may start feeling better within a day or so. Never share your antibiotic nor take someone else's. Use only medicaitons that are prescribed for your corrent condition. Never ignored any side effects; discuss them with your doctor immediately.
